GUIDELINES FOR SAFE GROUP RIDING
We will follow the Motor Maids, Inc. Riding Guidelines along with some guidelines created within
our district.
The objective is to plan a ride, communicate with the other riders, and be able to relax and enjoy
the roads…SAFELY.
Ride Leader and/or Meeting Hostess
1 – Plan your trip accordingly. Research gas stops and break areas if possible prior to the ride.
2 – Meet as a group before the ride and communicate the ride plans.
3 – Check with all riders on
the status of their fuel levels.
4 – Using your best judgment, position any riders towards the front of the line
that are inexperienced riders.
5 – Use your hand signals. DO NOT ASSUME the other riders know you’re
going to turn.
6 – Adjust your speed accordingly. Keep in mind the number of bikes in the group.
7 –
Assign a Road Captain and some assistants (if needed) to help with the route. They will be responsible for helping you get
a large group in/out of traffic lanes. **Riders with radio communication devices will be a big asset!
8 – If the
group is separated, pull over at a safe stopping area and wait for the group to catch up.
Road Captains
1 – Help your Leader! Communicate with the Ride Leader prior to
the event to plan accordingly.
2 – Pass on the Hand Signals through the ride!!
3 – Help with traffic
lanes.
Other Riders in a Group Ride
1 – Listen
to the Ride Leader! They will be communicating the plans to you!
2 – If you need to pull over and stop…signal
to someone in the group in front or directly behind you. Use the “buddy-system”…do not stop alone!
3 – Do not pull out of a group ride and pass everyone by speeding excessively! This is an UNSAFE MOVE! Signal
to someone in the group in front or directly behind you to pull over with you.
A special note: Share cell phone numbers just in case!
